SatNav Africa JPO recently participated in the ACAO/ICAO Radio Navigation Workshop held from 24 to 26 February 2025 in Rabat, Morocco. The event brought together experts from the ACAO region, sub-Saharan Africa, and Asia to exchange insights on the evolution of radio navigation and satellite-based augmentation systems (SBAS).

During the workshop, SatNav Africa JPO provided an update on the implementation of SBAS in Africa, showcasing key developments in Eastern Africa, including a GNSS monitoring pilot project. Participants engaged in knowledge sharing on ICAO provisions related to radio navigation, the latest advancements in GNSS and its augmentation, and strategies to address radio communications interference.

Discussions also focused on the growing challenges of GNSS vulnerabilities, with experts exploring trends, state perspectives, and approaches by service providers to mitigate interference and ensure the continued safety of navigation.

SatNav Africa JPO remains committed to supporting collaboration and the advancement of radio navigation and satellite-based augmentation systems to enhance safety, efficiency, and innovation in aviation and beyond.

On 29th of January 2025, SatNav Africa JPO had the privilege of hosting the new Director General of ASECNA, Mr. Prosper Zo’o Minto’o, at the JPO offices in the San Marco Building, Léopold Sédar Senghor (LSS) Airport, in Dakar. He was accompanied by a delegation composed of Mrs. Rokyatou Bathily, Chief of Cabinet, and Mr. Sidy Kone, Ag. Director of Air Navigation.

This visit provided an excellent opportunity to discuss with the JPO Team the progress made by the “Support to Satellite Navigation in Africa” programme, which is chaired by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the European Commission (EC) under the Africa-EU Space Partnership programme.

While wishing the Director General success in his new role, JPO acknowledged ASECNA’s critical role in hosting this Pan-African Programme and ensuring its smooth daily operations. ASECNA’s support is essential in shaping the future of Satellite Navigation in Africa, including through the Augmented Navigation for Africa (ANGA) SBAS programme.

As part of our ongoing efforts to understand the Satellite-based Augmentation Systems (SBAS) Receiver Pseudo Random Noise (PRN) capabilities, we are conducting a survey to gather valuable insights from SBAS Receiver manufacturers and solution providers.
Your feedback is valuable in helping us understand the PRN tracking capabilities of legacy SBAS receivers already on the market and of new SBAS receivers to support the development of GNSS/SBAS systems and applications that will meet user needs.
We kindly ask you to take a few minutes to complete our survey. Your responses will be kept confidential and will only be used for the purpose of this research.
