On 7 March 2025, SatNav-Africa JPO supported University Iba Der Thiam of Thiès (UIDT) in evaluating a Thesis as part of a Master’s degree in Sciences, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the advancement of GNSS education in Africa.
GNSS expert Herbert Ngaya at JPO joined the esteemed Jury, which included Prof. Issa Diagne (University Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar (UCAD) and Prof. Cheikh Sarr (UIDT), to assess research on the "Study and Implementation of an Effective Method for Decoding MT18 and MT26 Messages Related to the Ionosphere." These message types are crucial in Satellite-Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS), as they provide ionospheric corrections that enhance GNSS positioning accuracy critical for sectors such as aviation, precision agriculture, and survey and mapping among other sectors.
SatNav-Africa’s engagement was highly appreciated by the academic representatives present, highlighting the importance of bridging theory and real-world applications in satellite navigation.
Committed to fostering capacity building and collaboration across the region, SatNav-Africa JPO welcomes opportunities to support such initiatives and looks forward to continued collaboration with UIDT and other institutions in advancing GNSS education in Africa.
